Sugar, Oh Honey, Honey

That's right! I am back! I am renewing my blogging vows and hopefully it will stick this time:) So much has happened since my last post. I became pregnant, moved to a whole new state, bought a car, had a baby, and bought a brand new house! Needless to say, I have been busy. Motherhood is amazing and tries my patience every day. That tiny baby Ida has turned my life upside down and I am mostly loving it. I am also loving Alabama and living so close to family once again. Linda (my amazing sister-in-law) is my new best friend and I could not survive without her (why do you think we moved a stones throw away from her?). There is always fun and good conversation to be had at the house of Howe:) Moving into our very first home has been very exciting and exhausting. We have a lot more privacy and no more stairs! Hallelujah! Keeping it clean is definitely more challenging and whenever I think about how much we owe on this house I nearly vomit all over myself. With a husband, baby, and mortgage, I am now a for reals adult. Scary.

Due to my husband's health nut ways and my fear of diabetes, I have been baking sugar free for about two years. I mostly use honey and stevia in place of sugar in every recipe. Recently my sister Bekah came for a visit and she brought sugar back into our home and now I am reluctant to give up my sweet, soothing sugar. My desserts have been coming out just heavenly. My cookies taste like real cookies instead of tasting like a weird muffin. I had gone so long without it that I forgot just how wonderful sugar truly is.Of course Reese (the hub-a-dub) wants me to go back to our sugar free ways, but its easy for him to say. The man doesn't crave sweets! He is hardly human! I want treats every day, every hour! That's one of the reasons I replaced sugar in the first place, I am too addicted. So, I am still deciding whether or not to kick my sweet delectable sugar to the curb. My life will not be the same without my dear 'ol friend, but maybe it is for the best. Farewell Sugar, my love! I will miss you more than words can say.

I know Reese is anti about anything that will put an oz of fat on his body, but the difference between honey and sugar really isn't that different. I found a good link that explains the difference in lamens terms. http://goaskalice.columbia.edu/honey-vs-sugar-151-which-healthier

If you still want to use sugar in some recipes like cakes or cookies you can generally decrease the amount of sugar by half or 3/4, and the dessert will still taste just the same. Just some food for thought...if you make your own whole wheat bread my mom gave me an awesome recipe and it uses honey!!

Awesome! Thanks Ariel! Maybe I can convince him that sugar isn't all that bad. I will definitely have to get that recipe from your mom, I am always looking for yummy bread recipes:)

My sister in law robin says that she has a bad relationship with sugar so she broke up with him, I am too weak. I think as long as you still have chocolate in your life it is still worth living.

Sugar? that's what insulin's for.

Glad to have you back Sarah. Now I need to start again, especially before seminary (semi-scarey) starts and my life goes away.

dear sarah...i wait over a year for a blog post from you and you don't even post a picture of
a) cute lil' Ida
b) your new casa
c) cute lil' Ida
or d) cute lil' Ida?! Sigh. Come on friend-no more holding out! Oh and if you're worried about it, I vote don't ditch the sugar, just use it sparingly.
